SpoCom 2010 Post Show – AEM Infiniti G35 Wins Best in Show

August 9th, 2010 No comments

The SpoCom Super Show at Long Beach was an amazing show! Over 200 models and hundreds of show cars descended on the Long Beach Convention Center for the biggest SpoCom event of the year.

AEM 2003 Infiniti G35 Showcar

Thousands of sport compact and automotive enthusiasts were on hand to check out new product offerings, some of the cleanest and most tricked out cars in the world, and of course, enjoy the bikini, lingerie, and urban dance shows and contests.

AEM Induction Systems was a strong presence at SpoCom, showcasing our new Electronically Tuned Intakes (ETIs), Hybrid Dryflow air filters, and Air Filter Restriction and UEGO Gauges. One of the highlights of the show was the AEM 2003 Infiniti G35 showcar, owned by Randy Riggs, winning Best Infiniti. Randy was kind enough to answer a few questions for AEM about SpoCom and his long-time relationship with everything automotive.

2003 Infiniti G35

What got you into cars?
I started getting into cars back in high school. My father would have me help him do repairs and oil changes on the family cars. So then I took auto shop class so I could learn more about repairing cars, which then led me to attending UTI trade school in Phoenix, AZ. I have been showing cars for nearly 25 years now.

What made you choose a G35?
I was about to get married and wanted to get my new wife a new car. Since I keep my cars for a long period of time, I wanted to get something that would be practical for a family.

I have always had 2 door cars, but I thought about getting a cool sedan, since I thought one day we would have a family. Infiniti just released the G sedan and coupe. I really liked the coupe and still thought the sedan was really nice. One day I took my fiancé to look at the Infiniti sedans and she really liked it as well, but then all of a sudden she looked around the lot and saw the coupes. “I want that,” is what she said, so I said “COOL.” A few months later we went to the dealer to purchase the G coupe and received it the day before our wedding. We debuted it at our wedding reception, to the surprise of everyone, because we did not tell anyone that we were going to buy a new car, not even our own families.

How have AEM products contributed to the performance and visual appeal of your car?
I really like the fact the AEM air filter is low maintenance. I like to keep my cars in top running order and having a clean air filter is important. Being able to just wash it and let it dry makes it very easy. The AEM gauges let me monitor vital readings about my car. I have AEM products on both my cars; my Honda Accord has every AEM product available for it. I have dealt with AEM for nearly 20 years, since back when it was a tuning shop.

How does it feel to win Best Infiniti at the 2010 SpoCom Super Show?
It is a great honor to win Best Infiniti at any car show, but to win at SpoCom is a much greater honor. The show is billed as “the best of the best” that compete. Every year everyone looks forward to this show and does their best to make their car the best it can be. This was my 3rd year to compete at this event. The first year I got 3rd place, last year I got 2nd place, now this year I won one of those coveted unique 1st place trophies.

SpoCom Long Beach Super Show was definitely the biggest show of the year, but the next stop, Honolulu, Hawaii, promises to be the most exotic as the big island says “Aloha” to everything Sport Compact on Saturday August 28th. Grab some friends and take a few days off for some hot sport compact action on one of the most beautiful islands on the planet!

Modified 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche is a Sweet Ride for Owner Matt Brookshier

October 5th, 2009 5 comments

23 year old Matt Brookshier of the L.A. Chapter Nokturnal Car Club truly has a passion for modifying cars with style and performance. His love for cars began from childhood. “My family has always been into cars,” said Brookshier. “My brother built his first muscle car in the early 90′s, and ever since then, I have been interested in building my own.” Brookshier’s first car was a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC. “After high school I met some guys that shared my love for cars and they had a unique style,” he said. “I knew right away that this was the beginning of a new hobby building cars to display at DUB shows.”

Matt Brookshier’s latest project is a 2007 Chevy Avalanche. This unique Avalanche has an upper and lower E&G Classic mesh grill, suede & vinyl throughout the cab with custom matched doors and panels, 26″ Dub Bombers wheels wrapped in Kuhmo Ecstas, a full air ride with dual port Parker valves leading to a 4 ply Contech bag, 1″ bullet proof plexiglass in the bed to protect the Alpine sound system and many other modifications.

This 5.3 liter Avalanche is equipped with an AEM Brute Force Intake System 21-8023DP. “I have been using AEM for about a year now,” said Brookshier. “I prefer the dry filter over an oiled filter. The AEM intake has performed great and gives me the extra horsepower I lost when I installed the 26″ wheels. Installation was very simple. I did it myself.”

Brookshier’s custom 2007 Avalanche has attended a number of local cruises and car shows as well as DUB L.A., DUB Phoenix, DUB San Jose and the Ludikrs Car and Truck Show.

The upcoming car and truck show season will bring more exciting ideas and creative perspective to a rapidly growing industry. “I have a few ideas in mind for next year,” said Brookshier. “We’ll have to wait and see what is in store for the future.”

Matt Brookshier’s 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche with a 5.3L engine has the following modifications:

Engine – AEM Brute Force Intake (#21-8023DP), Color Matched Engine Cover, Front Radiator Cover and Fuse panel, 260 amp dual alternators powering dual batteries.

Exterior – Color Matched exterior plastic pieces and lower front valance, All of the emblems were taken off, the front Chevy emblem was colored match along with upper and lower E&G Classic mesh grille, 8K HID headlights, and covering the sound system in the bed area is a 1″ thick plexi glass which is also bullet proof.

Interior – Sting Ray and Elephant inserts, suede and vinyl throughout the cab with double white stitching, Custom color matched plastic doors and panels.

Suspension – 26″ Dub Bombers wheels wrapped in Kuhmo Ecstas, full air ride with dual port parker values leading to a 4 ply contech bag, feeding the air are 2 (9) gallon tanks and 1 (5) gallon tank which is filled by 4 (380) ViAir compressors, the truck hops 1 foot in the front on compressed air with NO BOTTLE.

Audio and Video – 4 Alpine 12″ Type X Subs and 3 sets of Type X components, 5 Alpine Amplifiers with everything fiber glassed in the bed, 2 15″ TVs custom fitted on the tailgate, each door panel has a 17″ TV on it, each seat has a 11.4″ TV, both visors are 12.2″ with a 7″ in-dash receiver, and topping it off is a 17″ flip down.
