AEM

The Lexus IS has had a cult following since its induction to the Lexus family of luxury vehicles in 2001. The sporty yet luxurious sedan appealed to the masses with its sleek lines and six-cylinder powerplant. Young and mature drivers alike gravitated to the IS model for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it was the entry-level model offered by Lexus, it featured a tuner-friendly platform, and the vehicle had power on tap. Fast-forward a few years and Lexus revamps the IS nameplate in 2006 by introducing the second-generation IS model, the IS350. With a 3.5-liter V6 engine under the hood and redesigned exterior, the IS350 has once again become a staple in the entry-level luxury sedan class.

The highly efficient 3.5-liter engine of the IS packs just over 300 horsepower at the engine which translates to 225 wheel horsepower (as tested by AEM). With a major loss of power through the drivetrain, AEM focused on regaining some of the lost power through a cold air intake system. After much research, AEM opted to utilize the newest in Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) technology on the 2006-09 Lexus IS350 with 3.5-liter V6 engine. An ETI system (Part Number 41-1402C for Gunmetal Gray and 41-1402P for Polished) was designed for the IS, optimizing the intake tube diameter for maximum airflow to the throttle body. AEM’s ETI intake systems are designed to electronically manipulate the vehicle’s MAF sensor readings. With the optimal inlet tube diameter, the ETI module (included) adjusts the air density readings in order to realize large horsepower and torque gains.

On the IS350, utilizing ETI technology translates into a maximum gain of 11 horsepower at just 4,400 RPM. Power increases can be seen throughout the powerband on the IS350 with AEM’s ETI cold air intake in place. Installation is straight forward using common tools.

This massive increase in performance is also coupled with outstanding filtration through AEM’s DRYFLOW performance air filter. For the 41-1402C and 41-1402P intake systems, AEM elected to use the 21-2110DK air filter. The 21-2110DK air filter’s construction consists of an inside diameter of 3.25-inches (83mm) and a height of 5.25-inches (133mm). AEM DRYFLOW air filters are reusable, washable synthetic air filters that have been designed for the optimum combination of airflow, filtration and performance. DRYFLOW filters utilize oil-free filtration media that offers easy cleaning, durability and longevity.
